A young caddy finds himself in the middle of a battle at a country club between its older, more conservative members, and the more free-spirited ones.
Caddyshack is the brainchild of alumni from three of comedy's most-acclaimed institutions: National Lampoon magazine, the Second City improvisational troupe, and Saturday Night Live. The story is based on real-life experiences the writers and actors had working for various golf clubs as young adults.
The cast features some of the biggest talents around at the time, including SNL co-stars Chevy Chase, Bill Murray & Brian Doyle-Murray, stand-up comedian Rodney Dangerfield, television veteran Ted Knight (an Emmy-winner for his work on The Mary Tyler Moore Show), as well as newcomers Michael O'Keefe and Cindy Morgan. While the younger actors were originally the focus of the script, the improvisational approach to filming enlarged the smaller roles of the better-known comedians. Many scenes involving Chase, Murray, and Dangerfield were created and written on-set.

Harold Ramis has been responsible for many memorable comedies as writer and/or director over the last 30 years, including Animal House, Vacation, Ghostbusters, Meatballs, Stripes, Groundhog Day, Analyze This, and Back to School. Caddyshack helped usher in an era of more risque, R-Rated comedies that found box office success despite the limited audience.
Because of its anarchic style and memorable dialogue, Caddyshack has become a true cult classic and one of the most-quoted (both on and off the golf course) movies ever made.
