A disgraced "shock-jock" radio personality crosses paths with a delusional homeless man looking for the Holy Grail, and discovers they need each other to repair their broken lives.

Terry Gilliam began his career as a cartoonist made famous by his animations for the Monty Python television series. After directing two feature films with the comedy troupe (Monty Python & the Holy Grail and Jabberwocky) and a loose fantasy trilogy (Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) he decided to try making a more realistic film, one from someone else's script. Screenwriter Richard LaGravenese took his love for mythology and brought the legend of the title figure, the Holy Grail, and Camelot knight Percival into the world of 20th century New York City.

Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams star along with Tony award-winning stage actors Mercedes Ruehl and Michael Jeter, as well as Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction), David Hyde Pierce (Frasier) and Harry Shearer (Spinal Tap). The film was photographed by Roger Pratt (Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Batman, The End of the Affair, two Harry Potter installments).

While free of the special effects and outlandish design found in Gilliam's previous few films, his darkly whimsical style is very much present, but with an emotional depth that marked new territory for the director, especially in the respective romances of the two main characters.

The film was a critical and commercial success, and garnered Academy Award nominations for Williams, LaGravenese, the art direction, the musical score, and Ruehl, who won in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Film runs 2 hrs., 15 min.
